October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Are You Prepared?
Cybersecurity Awareness Month is observed in October in the United States to raise awareness about the importance of protecting digital systems and data from cyber threats.
As of the third quarter of 2024, there were over 2,000 reported data breaches affecting an estimated 1.3 billion individuals globally with major breaches affecting companies like UnitedHealth, Snowflake, and AT&T.
Cyber threats can manifest in various ways, such as suspicious emails with questionable attachments and/or links, insufficiently configured systems, or improperly stored sensitive data in house or by a service provider. The goal for those attempts, which have risen by 71 percent year-over-year, is to get someone’s credentials to gain access to secure systems. Is your team ready to identify and combat these risks?
AAFCPAs designed this comprehensive IT and Cybersecurity Health Check to assist clients in surfacing, understanding, and managing priority IT risks that may be mitigated to better secure your organization’s Personally Identifiable Information (PII), client records, proprietary information, and/or other sensitive data, as well as meet certain compliance requirements like HIPAA.
Clients are encouraged to use this resource in discussions with your IT services group and as part of a more comprehensive Enterprise Risk Management Program.
