Thomas Perruna, CPA
Manager
Thomas provides assurance, tax, and consulting solutions to sophisticated nonprofits, including Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), Community Development Corporations (CDCs) and their affordable housing limited partnership projects, as well as multi-service human & social services providers. He is a member of AAFCPAs’ Healthcare and Affordable Housing Executive Committees.
Thomas has extensive experience leading financial statement audits in accordance with Uniform Guidance/Single Audit and Government Auditing Standards, as well as those with Massachusetts Uniform Financial Report (UFR) reporting requirements. Clients value Thomas’ insight on key issues that may arise in a government audit engagement, such as: required elements of the schedule of expenditures of federal awards, considerations when assessing and evaluating internal controls over compliance, cost allocation methodologies, and more. In addition, he provides advice on tax credit-based financing, including New Markets tax credits (NMTCs), and Low-Income Housing tax credits (LIHTCs) used widely in the affordable housing industry.
Thomas provides proactive guidance to management teams, boards of directors, finance committees, real estate directors, investors, lenders, and syndicators to ensure decisions are based on sound financial data. He helps clients derive meaning from comparative performance ratios and productivity benchmarks, and to evaluate the impact of external events beyond management’s control (such as COVID) that generate a great deal of variability.
Thomas has been serving AAFCPAs’ clients with distinction since 2011. He is a valued contributor to employee-focused initiatives, including serving as a performance manager and mentor to young CPAs, and as an in-house trainer on diverse topics, including FQHC auditing, UFR changes and best practices, and advanced analytical procedures. Thomas is a professional member of the AICPA and the MSCPA.
