Intuit Discontinues QuickBooks Desktop Service
AAFCPAs would like to make clients aware that, as of May 31, 2024, QuickBooks Desktop 2021 will be discontinued. This includes all 2021 versions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro, QuickBooks Desktop Premier, QuickBooks Desktop for Mac, and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions v21. Clients who fail to upgrade by this date will no longer have access to live technical support should issues arise.
Other integrated services will be inaccessible, as well, including QuickBooks Desktop Payroll, Desktop Payments, online bank feeds, Online Backup, Online Banking, and other services through QuickBooks Desktop 2021. Beginning June 1, 2024, Intuit will no longer provide QuickBooks Desktop users with critical security updates to protect their data.
Products affected by service discontinuation after May 31, 2024 include:
- QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021
- QuickBooks Desktop Premier 2021 (General Business, Contractor, Manufacturing & Wholesale, Nonprofit, Professional Services, and Retail)
- QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 21
- QuickBooks Premier Accountant Edition 2021
- QuickBooks Enterprise Accountant 21
- QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2021
As this date draws near, Intuit is encouraging users to migrate to QuickBooks Online, a web-based solution that offers similar functionality to QuickBooks Desktop 2021 plus anywhere/anytime access. Because software implementation, including migration to QuickBooks Online, may take months to complete, AAFCPAs advises that clients act immediately by learning their options and evaluating alternatives.
This is a great opportunity to reevaluate your current environment and determine whether your needs have changed since initial implementation. Are you still relying on Excel or time-consuming manual processes to supplement functionality? Could a broader, more integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution supporting all areas of the organization—from grant development to project management and finance—better suit your future vision? Are any specific features or functionality needed that are not currently offered by QuickBooks? How might productivity be improved with greater automation and integration?
