Tom is a member of AAFCPAs’ Community & Economic Development practice, and highly sought-after by the following interconnected industries: community development financial institutions (CDFIs), affordable housing developers, community development corporations (CDCs), tax credit syndicators, commercial real estate development projects, and other nonprofits operating in the industry. Tom is an industry leader in advising organizations on tax credit programs fueling the community development industry, including low income housing tax credits (LIHTC), new markets tax credits (NMTC), state and federal historical rehabilitation tax credits, and renewable energy tax credits. Tom also advises other nonprofits, including complex higher education and private schools. His commercial clients include closely-held manufacturing, real estate, and clean energy companies.
Tom has extensive experience in working with nonprofits which have merged or maintain multiple entity & consolidated structures, including those with relationships to for-profit entities. Tom is also experienced in areas of nonprofit taxation including public charity & excise tax requirements and unrelated business income tax (UBIT).
In addition to conducting in-house training of AAF’s team members, Tom delivers operational and financial educational seminars for nonprofit agencies throughout New England. Tom co-developed and taught a financial budgeting and management workshop series for management of nonprofit community development corporations. He also lectures annually about New Markets Tax Credits on behalf of the Massachusetts Housing Investment Corporation and other nonprofit service organizations.
