Shawn is a leader in AAFCPAs’ specialized Employee Benefit Plan Audit & Consulting Practice with extensive expertise in Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and Department of Labor (DOL) standards, including those related to audits of 401K and 403B Plans.
Shawn is Co-Chair of the MassCPAs’ ERISA Accounting & Auditing Committee where he shares information on best practices and specific audit procedures relating to ERISA audits to improve the overall quality of these types of audits. Shawn has built an extensive support network of diverse ERISA audit experts and stays at the forefront of regulatory developments, with a focus on higher risk compliance issues and changes in plan operations and design. He anticipates the DOL or IRS audit’s focus and assists through the DOL Voluntary Correction Program (VCP) and the IRS Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System (EPCRS).
Plan sponsors face fiduciary risks and responsibilities. Shawn provides assurance that their retirement plans and benefits are compliant with applicable regulations. He helps clients successfully manage their employee benefit plan with a well-planned, low-stress, and timely audit that meets all regulatory requirements. Additionally, Shawn provides financial statement assurance solutions for sophisticated, privately held companies, including manufactures, distributors, and professional services companies.
Prior to joining AAFCPAs, Shawn gained over 15 years of public accounting experience leading employee benefit plan audit and financial statement assurance engagement teams.
